DEADLINE APPROACHING
SEPT 30
ENSURE YOU ARE COUNTED IN THE 2020 CENSUS
According to an NPR report, "The U.S. Census Bureau is ending all counting efforts for the 2020 census on Sept. 30, a month sooner than previously announced. These last-minute changes to the constitutionally mandated count of every person living in the U.S. threaten the accuracy of population numbers used to determine the distribution of political representation and federal funding for the next decade. With roughly 4 out of 10 households nationwide yet to be counted, and already delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, the bureau now has less than two months left to try to reach people of color, immigrants, renters, rural residents and other members of historically undercounted groups who are not likely to fill out a census form on their own."
SUPPORT CA SB-731 A STATEWIDE PROCESS TO DECERTIFY OFFICERS WHO ARE FIRED FOR SPECIFIC MISCONDUCT SUCH AS EXCESSIVE FORCE, SEXUAL MISCONDUCT, AND DISHONESTY.
SB 731 is named in honor of Kenneth Ross Jr., a young man who was killed by a Gardena PD officer who has been involved in multiple officer-involved shootings and still remains on the force today.
SUPPORT AB 331: REQUIRES ETHNIC STUDIES AS A HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMENT
California would be the first state to mandate ethnic studies as a high school requirement. AB 331 would require at a minimum a one-semester course that would be based on an ethnic studies model curriculum that districts could use to fashion their own version.
SUPPORT AB 1460: REQUIRES CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY SCHOOLS TO INCLUDE ETHNIC STUDIES AS A GRADUATION REQUIREMENT
The bill, commencing with students graduating in the 2024-2025 academic year, would require the California State University to require, as an undergraduate graduation requirement, the completion of, at minimum, one 3-unit course in ethnic studies, as specified.
SUPPORT MEASURE B - THE SAN DIEGO INDEPENDENT COMMISSION ON POLICE PRACTICES
In November 2020, San Diegans for Justice will put Measure B on the ballot to replace the current Community Review Board on Police Practices with an independent Commission to bring public trust to the way SDPD is held accountable.
TELL THE PORT OF SAN DIEGO TO STOP DIESEL DEATHS
The Mitsubishi Cement Corporation (MCC) is proposing to build a mega cement warehouse on the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal in Barrio Logan.
The facility is estimated to increase monthly diesel truck trips by at least 50% adding 2,000 trips and up to as many as 8,700 trips in future years. Diesel Particulate Matter (PM) pollution can cause serious health problems like lung cancer and asthma. Children and the elderly are especially vulnerable and Barrio Logan already has some of the highest Diesel PM pollution in California. Barrio Logan and National City also have disproportionately high rates of COVID-19 infections – a disease made worse by poor air quality.

It is a platform that provides individuals with the opportunity to educate themselves on important issues that effect our community and the world at large with a focus on advocating for those who have been disenfranchised, marginalized, and systematically oppressed.
We Can. educate. mobilize. advocate.

"I am one of the people who built the country–until this moment there is scarcely any hope for the American dream, because the people who are denied participation in it, by their very presence, will wreck it."
- James Baldwin
We are in the midst of an opportunity to create a world in which WE CAN be morally proud of. Baldwin's words are a reflection about the entirety of human kind and how it can so easily be undervalued and in turn, ruined. It’s a warning, to everyone, to take a hard look at what we’ve become, and to rectify it before we destroy ourselves.
